Introduction

Learn to Read. Learn to Think. Live for Christ.

Oak Hill Christian School is dedicated to teaching students to read and read well. Reading instruction does not end in the elementary grades because students in the upper grades need to be discerning readers. They need to know what an author is saying and why he is saying it in order to think clearly about a given subject and to use the knowledge gained in a way to honor Christ.

How do we do this?

Our teachers teach by example and by edification, impacting students’ academic and spiritual growth. Classes are structured with an enjoyable atmosphere for learning through games, hands-on activities, discussions and more. We are able to do this because we have small class sizes, approximately 16 in a class.

At Oak Hill we follow a classical method of education, teaching the students according to the natural stages of learning. The grammar stage (1st-6th grades) is a time to build knowledge and skills while students have minds like sponges. During the logic stage (7th-8th grades), teachers take advantage of the way middle school students love to argue, helping them learn to question things in light of scripture. Finally in the rhetoric stage students improve and refine their ability to communicate both clearly and gracefully.
