Robert Loren Thoburn

Robert and his wife, Sheila, began Oak Hill Christian School in 1997. They have seen 7 of their grown children graduate from the school. Their 2 youngest still attend. Christ Church DC is their home church. Robert earned a B.A. in business and Austrian economics at Grove City College and a J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.

Seth Thoburn

Latin

Seth Thoburn enjoys just about any language: Latin and Hebrew as well as math and programming which he also considers to be languages. Seth is a full stack developer and CEO at ConsignCloud, a fast growing software company, and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Culture from New Saint Andrews College.

Gloria Oh

Science

Gloria Oh brings intellectual curiosity and academic excellence to the classroom. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, she earned her B.S. in Biology before completing an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Gloria has a strong biblical worldview, holding to a young-earth understanding of creation and actively advocating for the unborn. She looks forward to partnering with parents in providing an exceptional education for their children. When she isn't teaching, Gloria enjoys reading, playing the viola, and sketching.

Sheila Key Thoburn

Literature and Writing

Sheila Key Thoburn has been instrumental in shaping Oak Hill’s classical curriculum. A native of Arlington, she studied Early Childhood Development at Pellissippi State and brings both warmth and whimsy to the classroom. A lifelong lover of books, Sheila also enjoys writing and regularly shares her thoughts on education on the school blog. She is a registered instructor with Institutes for Excellence in Writing and has taught IEW methods for over 15 years.

Destiny McGorman

Physical Education

Destiny McGorman is the PE Teacher at Oak Hill. She graduated from Liberty University and has two children attending OHCS. She loves all things sports related and hopes to strengthen and encourage sportsmanship in our students. Her primary goal is not simply to have fun, but to teach the kids to maintain Christlike character and support one another even while being opponents in sports.

Caleb Thoburn

Trigonometry

Caleb Thoburn, a graduate of Oak Hill Christian School and an honors math student at New Saint Andrews College, has an enthusiasm for mathematics that is evident in the fact that he has both a favorite number (2) and a favorite formula, Euler’s Identity, (e^i)*pi + 1 = 0. This school year he is teaching trigonometry at Oak Hill as well as math at Moscow Boys’ School. Caleb has high expectations for his students as he believes the Bible commands us to study math, “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” -Proverbs 25:2

Dr. Justin Sutters

Art Education

Justin Sutters teaches art at Oak Hill. He also serves as the Director of Graduate Art Education program at George Mason University. He helps students see art as another form of communication and persuasion as well as a way to bring glory to the Creator. He exemplifies a genuine love and excitement for God’s world in his teaching.

Justin Hall

Personal Finance Elective

Justin is a father of three and an experienced IT executive (currently CTO of a SaaS company) who has led large-scale technology programs ($50M+) while living and working across Europe and Asia. Blessed with strong financial instincts both professionally and personally, he has built a career on stewardship, strategy, and caring for people over pure profit. Justin is excited to bring that same heart for mentorship into the classroom and to help our students build a strong financial foundation for their future.

Claudia Key

Vocal Ensemble
OH Since 2005

Mrs. Key directs our high school vocal ensemble with a zeal for singing. It is not uncommon to hear her students singing joyfully as they walk through the halls before and after class. She has extensive experience in voice technique and piano. Each year she leads the Oak Hill Christmas and Easter concerts. A native of Northern Virginia, Claudia and her husband have four children who all attended Oak Hill. They now have five grandchildren with two more on the way.

Sarah Jenkins

Logic, Typing

A graduate of Davis College in New York, where she graduated summa cum laude, Sarah brings a diligent work ethic and more than ten years of experience serving in youth ministry. She and her husband have four children who all attend Oak Hill. Mrs. Jenkins teaches typing, including proper paper formatting, and logic, using class instruction as an opportunity to help students grow in both skill and character.

Arelis Gil

Student Programs & College Counselor

Arelis Gil earned her B.S. in Education and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She taught at Palo Verde High School, where she gained experience teaching honors history, AP and other courses. At Oak Hill, Arelis brings a heart for helping students to grow as servant-leaders. She is passionate about preparing students for college by giving them opportunities to gain skills beyond academics by serving within the school and in the broader community. She and her husband have three children who are all enrolled at Oak Hill.
