Robert and his wife, Sheila, began Oak Hill Christian School in 1997. They have seen 7 of their grown children graduate from the school. Their 2 youngest still attend. Robert earned a B.A. in business and Austrian economics at Grove City College and a J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.
Seth Thoburn enjoys just about any language: Latin and Hebrew as well as math and programming which he also considers to be languages. Seth is a full stack developer and CEO at ConsignCloud, a fast growing software company, and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Culture from New Saint Andrews College.
Arelis Gil earned her B.S. in Education and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She taught at Palo Verde High School, where she gained experience teaching honors history, AP and other courses. At Oak Hill, Arelis brings a heart for helping students to grow as servant-leaders. She is passionate about preparing students for college by giving them opportunities to gain skills beyond academics by serving within the school and in the broader community. She and her husband have three children who are all enrolled at Oak Hill.
Sheila Key Thoburn has been instrumental in shaping Oak HIll’s classical curriculum. A native of Arlington, she studied Early Childhood Development at Pellissippi State and brings both warmth and whimsy to the classroom. A lifelong lover of books, Sheila also enjoys writing and regularly shares her thoughts on education on the school blog. She is a registered instructor with Institutes for Excellence in Writing and has taught IEW methods for over 15 years.
Tessa Wemlinger brings a love of nature and a heart for hands-on learning to Oak Hill’s science program. She has homeschooled her four children for fourteen years, but recently decided to make a change in her youngest daughter’s education, and both joined the Oak Hill community. Tessa continues to teach middle school science at her homeschool co-op while alternating teaching days at OH. She delights in engaging students with creative, hands-on lessons that inspire a true wonder for God’s creation.
Ashley uses her classical training to help her students thrive in challenging subjects. She holds master’s degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute for Technology and has over ten years of teaching experience. She has served as VASFA camp director at Wallops Island, VA, taught robotics and coding, and tutored students in Calculus and Physics. Ashley loves using her gifts to give students clarity and confidence in subjects that often feel overwhelming.
Mrs. Key directs our high school vocal ensemble with a zeal for singing. It is not uncommon to hear her students singing joyfully as they walk through the halls before and after class. She has extensive experience in voice technique and piano. Each year she leads the Oak Hill Christmas and Easter concerts. A native of Northern Virginia, Claudia and her husband have four children who all attended Oak Hill. They now have five grandchildren with two more on the way.
