Katherine Culver earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, summa cum laude, at Methodist University. Mrs. Culver and her husband, William, worship at Potomac Hills Presbyterian Church in Leesburg and have two beautiful daughters who both attend Oak Hill. In addition to teaching in elementary, Mrs. Culver directs the Oak Hill Elementary Choir. Most mornings she is found singing with her students as they prepare for the day.
Amanda Fournier has worked in various school settings and in children’s ministry. She attends McLean Bible Church with her family. Mrs. Fournier brings a thoughtful gentleness to her classroom, cultivating in her students a love of learning. She is frequently seen reading with her class on the floor, guiding her students in nature study or group projects and giving her pupils ample opportunities to speak on notes taken during Bible and history class. She holds a B.A. from the University of Delaware.
Destiny McGorman is our Elementary PE Teacher at Oak Hill, as well as a teaching assistant. She graduated from Liberty University and has two children attending OHCS. She loves all things sports related and hopes to strengthen and encourage sportsmanship in our students. Her primary goal is not simply to have fun, but to teach the kids to maintain Christlike character and support one another even while being opponents in sports.
Anthony Clendenen is enthusiastic about history and mechanics. He leads his own tours on field trips, teaching his students about the Civil War at Manassas Battlefield and the history of flight at the Air and Space Museum. He has experience teaching speech and debate and is also an avid fly fisherman. Mr. Clendenen holds a B.A. with honors in Classical Liberal Arts from Patrick Henry College where he met his lovely wife, Brynna.
Tessa Wemlinger brings a love of nature and a heart for hands-on learning to Oak Hill’s science program. She has homeschooled her four children for fourteen years, but this year decided to make a change in her youngest daughter’s education, and both joined the Oak Hill community. Tessa continues to teach middle school science at her homeschool co-op while alternating teaching days at OH. She delights in engaging students with creative, hands-on lessons that inspire a true wonder for God’s creation.
Justin Sutters teaches elementary art at Oak Hill. He also serves as the Director of Graduate Art Education program at George Mason University. He works with our teachers to creatively engage students with hands-on lessons, reinforcing what they are learning in their main classrooms. He exemplifies a genuine love and excitement for God’s world in his teaching.
Through her calm demeanor, Ashley Ramsey brings professionalism to her fourth grade classroom and sets a strong example of organization and focus for her students. While earning her AAS in Secondary Education and her BS in Mathematics, she gained valuable classroom experience. She has taught in a local homeschool group and has also educated her own children from preschool through sixth grade. When she isn’t mentoring her fourth graders, Ashley enjoys reading and spending time outdoors.
We’re excited to welcome Carrie Smiley as one of our science teachers. Originally from Pasco, WA, Carrie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She looks forward to teaching and having her two youngest children attend Oak Hill in 6th and 8th grades. She is excited to teach in a classical Christian school that focuses on training students to glorify God and serve others. She’s preparing for her classes by studying the IEW program to help her integrate outlining, summarizing and speaking in her science lessons.
